Day 21: Fri, Nov 4 -- Mt. Sinai and Return to Cairo
Synopsis
We woke up at 2am to set out on our hike up Mt. Sinai. The stars that could be seen along the hike were unbelievable, especially after living in Los Angeles for a few years. We could clearly see the “star dust” that makes up the Milky Way galaxy. The hike took a little over 2 hours and we arrived at the top about one hour before sunrise. We watch the sunrise as it illuminated the spectacular, rugged surroundings. It was awe-inspiring. We then hiked down the stairs of repentance to St. Catherine’s monastery at the base of the mountain. After returning to the hotel for breakfast, we went back to the monastery to look around. After that we headed back to Cairo where the group went back to the bazaar for one last drink and shisha. At about midnight, we headed to the airport to catch our flight to Athens
